National Day of Mourning: Historic Procession From Virginia to Alabama

The National Day of Mourning will begin on August 30th with a processional from Virginia to North Carolina and Georgia, and ending with a Prayer Rally in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday, August 31st.

There will be a press conference at each stop along the way. For information on each event, please visit the Official National Day of Mourning Website.

In Birmingham, the ending Prayer Rally will begin at 10 AM, hosted at Guiding Light Church (1800 John Rogers Dr). Speakers and prayer leaders will include:

  • Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life
  • Alveda King, Civil Rights for the Unborn
  • Rachel Citak, Citizens for Community Values
  • Rev. Dean Nelson, Human Coalition Action
  • Catherine Davis, Restoration Project
  • Sarah Howell, CEC For Life
  • Rev. Walter Hoye, Issues4Life Foundation
  • Sylvia Matthews, Houston Pregnancy Help Center
  • and many, many more!

Sponsored by Civil Rights for the Unborn, the Douglass Leadership Institute and The Restoration Project, this event asks our nation to pause and mourn the loss of women and children from the unnecessary destruction of abortion, especially within the Black community.

Planned Parenthood continues to target Black women and babies, constructing larger and larger facilities in the heart of Black communities. As you all know, one of those facilities is being built here in Birmingham, just blocks from the 16th Street Baptist Church.

On Saturday, please join these national leaders, along with Americans from all over the country, as we pray for the end of this genocide in every city — especially our city of Birmingham — and bring dignity to the countless lives already lost.
