On Wednesday, March 2, the United States Supreme Court will hear “Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt” the most important case concerning abortion in 25 years. The Justices will determine if a Texas law promoting women’s health regarding abortion is a violation of the Constitution.
The two regulations being challenged within law, which passed the Texas legislature in 2013, are a requirement for abortionists to have local hospital privileges within 30 miles of their abortion clinic, and for all abortion facilities to meet the specifications of ambulatory surgical centers. Similar laws have been passed in several states besides Texas, and all could be upheld or undone by the Supreme Court’s decision.
In response to the obvious weight this case holds, CEC For Life, Church on the Hill DC, Women for Quality Healthcare, Generation Life National, and leader Ryan Bomberger are co-sponsoring the two-day prayer event #ProtectThemBoth, which will be held directly in front of the U.S. Supreme Court, beginning on the evening before the trial begins.
These groups and leaders are calling for every pro-life Christian who is able to join them for what they and many others beleive to be one of the most crucial times of prayer in our nation’s history.
Tomorrow night, March 1, at 7 PM, the #ProtectThemBoth coalition will gather before the steps of the Supreme Court to begin an all-night prayer vigil. After a short candlelight service, pro-life Christians and intercessors will maintain this prayerful presence throughout the night, until 9:30 AM the following morning.
Fr. Terry Gensemer, Director of CEC For Life, comments, “We cannot stress enough the historic importance of this court case for the pro-life movement, or the spiritual necessity of our presence as praying Christians in this nation. With the recent death of Justice Scalia, this case became even more precarious, and we must stand before our Heavenly Father like never before to plead for the lives of the preborn children and desperate women who can and will be saved if this law is upheld.”
“We cannot stress enough the historic importance of this court case for the pro-life movement…”
According to #ProtectThemBoth, the Texas Bill is already credited with saving 10,000 innocent children from abortion, as well as protecting countless women from abortion-related complications. Even abortion advocates admit the bill would close 75% of existing abortion clinics in Texas.
Rev. Patrick Mahoney of Church on the Hill DC says, “This case will truly decide the future of abortion in America. It is critical that we have a massive pro-life turnout to send a powerful message to the Justices that Americans are growing uncomfortable with abortion on demand and want to protect both women and innocent child from the violence of abortion.”
He adds, “We were not in front of the court for Roe v. Wade. Let’s not make that same mistake again.”
More information on the two-day event can be found on the Facebook event page, and the official web page.
The full schedule is posted below. CEC For Life invites and encourages all pro-lifers (especially those in the DC area!) to attend. If you cannot attend in person, please certainly join us in prayer.
